Egg Component in Vaccines cause Allergy in Children

January 9, 2010, 6:03 am
If you look at the medical journals or health reports in the country, you will find that millions of vaccinations, most of which are routine, are administered on the child here. While allergic reactions on administration of such vaccination are a rarity, sometimes such reactions may result due to combined affects of food and vaccines. The reasons for such situation are that the vaccine contains some food proteins to which your child is highly allergic. A recent survey has indicated that around 8% of the children suffer from such food allergies. Not all foods cause equal reactions among them. It is the egg that causes the highest amount of allergic reactions among them. Since many routine childhood immunizers also contain traces of egg proteins, children who are allergic to egg suffer from allergic reactions when such immunizers are administered on them. This is not only the case of immunizers and vaccines but in case of all the medicines and other components that are administered on the children who are prone to allergic tendencies. Most of the times they could experience most severe reactions like anaphylaxis in result of administration of such medicines or vaccines. While use of egg directly as food could cause allergic reactions, anything containing egg contents can also allergic reactions. Some of the routine immunizations like the influenza immunization, measles-mumps-rubella or MMR and such other vaccines. Also the yellow fever and typhoid vaccines contain such egg components. While vaccines used in Influenza contain limited amount of egg proteins and it can vary with every batch and every year in progress. That is why the Influenza vaccines should not be administered on such people who suffer from true egg allergies. Of course there could be such situations when the benefits of using these vaccines with egg contents could outweigh the ill or allergic affects they cause. Moreover in certain cases your child may not be real egg allergic. If your child consumes egg without showing any symptoms of allergies despite testing positive in the scheduled allergy tests, then he or she is not egg allergic. Yet it would be better both for you and your child to consult the allergist who will give the best vaccines for your child that will not bring up the allergic reaction. Since such allergist will prescribe medicines or drugs after close monitoring of the condition of the affected person, there will normally be no problem after the administration of the vaccine or drug. Usually the NMR vaccines are produced using the chick fibroblast cell culture. Therefore in most cases they may not contain egg protein. That is why the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that the vaccine can be administered on children without any fear of recurrence of egg allergic affects. In case where the egg component in the vaccine affect the egg allergic people there it is always advisable to obtain the supervision of the physician while administering the vaccine.About the Author:
